Stay cybersafe when attending work conferences
Conferences are great opportunities to collaborate on work, discover new ideas, and meet other professionals in your field. It is important, however, to keep your devices and data safe when traveling to these events.
Vendors at these conferences have gifts that you can win by dropping in your business card or providing your email address. After you provide that information, your work email has the potential to become full of phishing attempts and sales inquiries that cybercriminals can take advantage of.
ACTION STEPS:
- Be careful who you give your business card to. You can never be too trustful of every vendor or person at the conference
- Create an alternative work email address for when you travel and a business card without your phone number. Scammers have the opportunity to spam your phone with calls after receiving your work phone number.
